On a momentous evening in Kathmandu, Himalayan Nature and the Nepal-Britain Society, conferred the prestigious Brian Houghton Hodgson Award for Nature Conservation 2026 upon Dr. Hemanta Raj Mishra—a visionary conservationist whose lifelong dedication has shaped the very fabric of Nepal’s natural heritage.

With over four decades of pioneering service, Dr. Mishra’s extraordinary legacy includes the establishment of protected areas, leadership of flagship conservation programmes, groundbreaking species translocation initiatives, and the integration of community livelihoods into conservation through participatory models. His work has not only set a gold standard for people-centered conservation in Nepal but also stands as a cornerstone of modern wildlife management in the region.

The ceremony was graced by distinguished dignitaries, including Rob Fenn, British Ambassador to Nepal; Dr. Buddhi Sagar Poudel, Director General of the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation; Dr. Hem Sagar Baral, Director of Conservation at the Snow Leopard Trust; and Pratima Pande, President of the Nepal-Britain Society.
